Cake Smash!

As a mother who just celebrated her sons first birthday I am in awe of how quickly one year went by. That newborn baby grows into a toddler so quickly that a parent blinks and in an instant that baby is a toddler. The first birthday is a time to reflect on the amazing little person that a baby becomes and a time to get excited about what lies ahead.

I have watched little Reiden grow over the past year and was so excited to be invited to photograph his 1 year portrait and his upcoming birthday party. He was totally cute and very cooperative for our session and as a reward to end the session Reiden got a birthday treat...a yummy cupcake.

The best part of the first birthday is letting the little one have their first taste of cake andicing...and capturing it is just as fun! Here are a few shots from Reiden's cake smash and the fun he had!

My little man...

It's amazing how much changes in one year.

Only one short year ago I, along with my husband and daughter welcomed Owen Alexander Morrison to our family. Just 21 months after our daughter arrived we were lucky enough to add a baby boy to our family. It's funny how quickly Lara was no longer the baby and we were back at the parenting starting line! Diapers, nursing, sleepless nights and a toddler...it almost didn't seem possible that I would be able to handle it all, plus taking care of the house and continuing with my photography...but here we are one year later!Lara is a wonderful big sister and Owen isn't a baby anymore...and of course I have documented it all along the way.

Here are a few of my favourite pictures from the past year.

Our first family photo.
Owen - 3 months old (photo by Apryl Munro)
Owen - 6 months old
Owen - 9 months old and ready to celebrate Halloween
Owen's first Christmas - 10.5 months old

I'll miss the tiny fingers and toes, the wrinkles in the skin and that newborn baby smell...but I can't wait to watch Owen walk (consistently), have conversations and become "spirited" in his toddler years like his sister is.

Here's to the year ahead!

Family History

Last year, as a gift to my father-in-law, I documented a year on the Morrison Family farm. I shot during every season and captured everything from planting to harvest season to the daily occurrences on the farm. I took thousands of pictures and now one (or a few) are going to be published in a calendar. The Essa Historical Society will be using one of my photos for a calendar documenting local farms. People are actually going to buy something with my work in it....I know it's only a calendar...but it's a start!

Captain Professional

So, this past weekend I was given a challenge. A friend (Kristin) from high school, who is working on her professional website, called me up and asked if I would do some headshots. Now, I had never done headshots before...but I was certainly up for the challenge. I did some research and scouted out locations around my house and was pretty confident that I could pull off this style of photo....but could I pull it off with Kristin as the star of the show??? Now, I love Kristin...she is awesome...but the reason she called me for some professional help is because there are almost NO shots of this girl looking "normal". Kristin is fun, crazy and hilarious in her personal life and that tends to lead to some less than professional looking images. Despite lots of giggles (from both of us) we pulled it together and got some great shots! Take a look at the images and you be the judge.

I'd hire that face....wouldn't you??

Photo Giveaway

The lucky winners of a free wedding shoot and free portrait session have been notified...but you will have to stay tuned for the wedding shots and baby bump photos! I can't wait! :-)

Oh Baby!

For a while it seemed like I was the baby bump queen. I was shooting expectant moms non-stop....and then things on the baby belly front started to slow down and those mothers-to-be became moms! Which brings us to this post!

As a mother of two I know how important it is to capture the first moments of a newborns life...and how tricky it can be to stop and pick up a camera in those early days. Between feedings, diapers and siblings life becomes a delicate balancing act...and making time to take pictures sometimes just doesn't make the cut (I know, Iv'e been there). So, when I get the opportunity to shoot a baby, especially the really new ones, I have so much fun! They'll only be that small once and getting "the" shot for mom and dad is the best feeling in the world. Here are a few shots from recent baby shoots. Enjoy!

Baby Doner - 2 and a half months
